For the purposes of ramming damage all generations of armed pinnaces and recon pinnaces are considered to be 4 boat bay points and escort shuttles 2 point bay points. The 2nd generation assault shuttle and pinnace in 3rdedR are 2 and 4 boat bay points respectively. All other small craft have the indicated boat bay points for ramming.

All generations of Apin can use fXR packs, taking 3 fXO racks.
&=Apin+ has the sensor definition range of a ship (20/30), and a limited form of datalink. Up to three Apin+ can be datalinked, but only external weapons are datalinked and only against one target. Point defense and internal fighter guns are fired independently, so an Apin+ squadron can fire up to 7 targets.

Ste and Ste+ are unable to mount fXR packs.
&&=ste+ has the sensor definition range of a ship (20/30), and a limited form of datalink. Up to three ste+ can be datalinked, but only external weapons are datalinked and only against one target. Point defense can be fired independently, so a ste+ squadron can fire up to 4 targets. Apin+ and Ste+ can be datalinked to each other, but the limit is still three units.
&&&=ste2 has datalink that permits four units to fire together (up to four targets). Point defense among the four units can be shared. Internal weapon has the same frontal firing arc as a fighter.  Can use fXR packs (takes 3 fXO)
&&&&=ste3 has hardened datalink that permits six units to fire together (up to six targets). The range of this datalink is 1 tactical hex. Point defense among the six units can be shared. Ste3 also has anti-laser armor incorporated into its hull. A laser hit has to do at least two points of damage to destroy a Ste3. However, if a Ste3 is carrying external anti-matter ordnance and is hit by just one point of laser damage then it is destroyed. Internal weapons have the same frontal firing arc as a fighter. Can use fXR packs (takes 3 fXO)

*=Apin2 has datalink that permits four units to fire internal weapons and external ordnance together (up to four targets). Point defense among the four units can be shared.
**=Apin3 has datalink that permits six units to fire internal weapons and external ordnance together (up to six targets). Point defense among the six units can be shared.
***=Apin4 has hardened datalink that permits six units to fire internal weapons and external ordnance together (up to six targets). The range of this datalink is 1 tactical hex. Point defense among the six units can be shared. Apin4 also has anti-laser armor incorporated into its hull. A laser hit has to do at least two points of damage to destroy an Apin4. However, if a Apin4 is carrying external anti-matter ordnance and is hit by just one point of laser damage then it is destroyed.

#=pnr has datalink that permits three units to fire external ordnance together against one target. Point defense can be fired independently, so a pnr squadron can fire up to 4 targets. pnr can datalink with Apin+, but the limit is still three units.
##=pnr2 has datalink that permits four units to fire external ordnance together (up to four targets). Point defense among the four units can be shared.
###=pnr3 has datalink that permits six units to fire external ordnance together (up to six targets). Point defense among the six units can be shared.
####=pnr4 has hardened datalink that permits six units to fire external ordnance together (up to six targets). The range of this datalink is 1 tactical hex. Point defense among the six units can be shared. pnr4 also has anti-laser armor incorporated into its hull. A laser hit has to do at least two points of damage to destroy a pnr4. However, if a pnr4 is carrying external anti-matter ordnance and is hit by just one point of laser damage then it is destroyed.

****=Identical in all regards to a third generation gunboat except for three improvements. A fourth generation gunboat can carry four internal weapons.  Second, the GB4 has anti-laser armor incorporated into its hull. It can still be destroyed by any weapon that can kill a GB, but if  hit by a laser then apply the anti-laser armor rules. The practical result of this is that a laser must be able to do two points of damage in one hit in order to destroy a GB4. This also means that in a small craft/fighter/gunboat environment a GB4 can withstand more laser hits until the range was reduced (and was practically immune to the regular fighter laser).
The third improvement is the addition of hardened small craft datalink. The range of this datalink is 1 tactical hex. GB3 and GB4s can be integrated into the same squadron but only GB4s will be able to keep a datalink while in the range of an active jammer.
Important note. Even with the advantage of anti-laser armor, if a GB4 is carrying external anti-matter ordnance when it is hit by a laser then it is considered destroyed.

***** = The GB5, like the GB4, has anti-laser armor incorporated into its hull. A laser hit has to do at least two points of damage to destroy a GB5. However, if a GB5 is carrying external anti-matter ordnance and is hit by just one point of laser damage then it is destroyed.
With tachyon-assisted datalink, a GB5 can be within two tactical hexes of another GB5 to share point defense and co-ordinate fire control. The TL 9 (?j) cannot jam the datalinks of a GB5 squadron.
Due to significant improvements in drive technology a GB5 gained surplus interior volume. In addition to a small cargo hold a GB5 can carry fighter ECCM internally (cost does not include price of ECCM system). This installation can be upgraded when new levels of the system becomes available. The cost to refit a GB5 is 42mc plus the cost of additional levels of ECCM. Refitting utilizes one hull space of capacity of a MS/SYM/SY.

$ - AFSC2 can form into datagroups of 4. Range is 0. If datalinked with any other generation of AFSC the group limit is 3.
$$ - AFSC3 can form into datagroups of 6. Range is 0. If datalinked with any other generation of  AFSC the group limit is 3. Internal weapons has the same restricted arc of fire as before.
$$$ - AFSC4. As above, but has hardened datalink and anti-laser armor. Same rules as for 4th generation apins and gunboats.

Upon reaching TL 18 a form of fourth generation anti-laser armor (AI4) can be incorporated into the hulls of all small craft as well, though only for new builds, at no additional cost. A laser will have to inflict at least two points of damage in a single hit (not a volley) in order to destroy a small craft with anti-laser armor. Small craft other than 4th generation armed pinnaces, 3rd generation escort shuttles, and 4th generation gunboats so equipped have the code letter 'a' appended to them (stu2a for example).
