Description
    Looking like a cross between a terrestrial bear and wolf, this race, called the Lauset, arose on a world both rich in life and conflict. Over time, a military government secured control of the planet. Space flight was developed and then soon after the race discovered and explored their first warp point. The first system had no planets, but the second explored system did, and it held a habitable one. This second system, located very close to what the Lauset called the Darkstorm Nebula, was immediately settled. Under the rule of Governor-General Okjen, the Lauset nation was renamed the Darkstorm Nebula Empire (DNE).
    Another habitable planet was found and settled when the DNE had an encounter with the Asteroid Axis. It wasn't long before the Axis made clear their hostile intentions and attacked. Losses for the Axis were heavy in the first battles, but they had a huge reserve and kept up the pressure. Despite being larger in terms of population, the DNE was economically weaker than the Axis. Industrial development had a much lower priority than current ship production and salary for military personnel. A belated expansion of industry came too late to help, for Axis ships had overran the DNE fleet and bombarded both outlying colony planets into ruin.
    Governor-General Okjen lead the defenders of the homeworld warp point and was killed during the largest assault by the Axis to date. The Axis elected to take the homeworld with ground forces. Fighting lasted eight months, and the surviving population was used as slave labor as the Axis starting bringing in colonists to make the planet their own. By the time the CPS arrived to the system years later it was too late for the Lauset race. Rather than seeing the liberation of the remaining million slaves, Axis ground troops and civilians massacred them. Faced with this clear evidence of Axis insanity, along with captured data giving a clear view of Axis history, policy and mindset, the admiral in charge of the CPS fleet, Tulcus Jki, sought and received permission to bombard the planet with antimatter warheads and radioactive dust.  The CPS fleet left, leaving behind a world that would unfit for habitation for centuries. Only ghosts, both of Lauset and Axis, could call such a place home, and wage an unseen spectral battle until the end of time.

The Nebula Space Fleet (NSF)
    The NSF, given the nature of its weapons, was one that sought close range combat. Using tractor beams helped in this regard, holding a targeted ship so that gun missiles and plasma packets could hit more effectively. Axis ships had no real defense except for range, but that didn't help in warp point assaults. Laser buoys and bases equipped with energy pulse cannons added more misery. In the end, however, the Axis developed its own version of datalink and simply built more ships than the DNE. The war did left its mark on the Axis in that all major combatants were equipped with shearing planes when they became available.
