Further Background and TL 15 - 18 ships

Description:
An eight-limbed mix of reptilian and mammalian characteristics, the typical Uhlani is 2 meters long and 1.1 meters high. The front pair of limbs end in hands that have three fingers and an opposable thumb each. Egglayers but warm blooded, the typical Uhlani has a fine spray of scales along its back and fur along its bottom. The race has two pairs of eyes; one that has color vision and the other infra-red. Under most climatic conditions the Uhlan have no need for clothes. However, due to military protocol all adults not directly engage in military affairs wear a basic tunic affixed with their rank and badge of service. Those serving on active duty wear specific uniform tunics.
The Uhlan nation is presided over by a commanding general with the various subdivisions of government (health, education, transportation, etc) aligned in chain of command. Instead of a congress there is a quarterly meeting that has the involvement of each major and minor governmental department head. Based on the recommendations from this meeting the commanding general issues or adjusts the orders that govern the nation. The one holdover from the Uhlan's distant democratic past is the election of a new commanding general, an occurrence that happens once every ten years. Each adult Uhlani has one vote, and the candidate general with the most votes wins.
Quite militant, the Uhlan had no means to expand from their homeworld holdings until the accidental discovery of their first warp point. The Commonwealth had grown to include five systems until it made contact with the Fendalen Kingdom. Based on what it saw of the Fendalen survey group, and their own chauvinistic belief of their own military might, the Uhlani declared war scarcely two weeks after establishing a rather peaceful first contact.
For the Fendalens it was rather inconvenient. The war with the CPS was a year old, and not much in the way of ships could be gather in such a short notice to fight the Uhlani. What forces that were in hand, however, was more than enough. Strong as they were, the Uhlan Navy overlooked one critical technical achievement - datalink point defense. Fendalen missile dreadnoughts, battleships, and battlecruisers rained down huge barrages onto ships that could only count on their own missile defenses. They faired somewhat better in the fighter department, but were a generation behind that of their Royal Navy foes.
Given their aggressive stance, the Uhlani had few OWPs and even fewer were in stockpile storage. Minefields and buoys could be built in quantity, but did little to slow the Fendalens. In fourteen months the Royal Navy had, with the help of a lavish SBMHAWK assault, entered the Uhlani home system and were poised to destroy the orbital works. The commanding general, on his authority, agreed to the demand of unconditional surrender.
For their part, the Fendalens were far more circumspect with the Uhlani than with previous races (mostly pre-industrial) they had encountered. Skillful diplomacy and a play to salve the crushed Uhlani ego greatly reduced the possibility of revolt. By the time the war with the CPS ended the Uhlani were partnered with the Fendalens. At the start of the Pulurtan War the Uhlani had amalgamated with the Fendalen Kingdom and were given the honor of forming the 10th Knights Brigade.

The Uhlani Space Navy Corps (SNC)
The SNC loved large ships. Its battleline focused on battleships escorted by large numbers of battlecruisers and heavy cruisers. Artillery-class dreadnoughts were a recent addition, thanks in part to the invention of anti-matter warheads. Carriers and their escorts were armed with capital force beams and were expected to participate in long-range beam bombardment. In combat with the Royal Navy that quickly changed, due to the lack of datalink point defense. Even with evidence of such a system the SNC was unable to duplicate it in time. Only those OWPs over the homeworld had the system installed when the Fendalens launched their final assault.
