Iowa City Speedway
Iowa City, Iowa

Built in the boom year of 2048, the Speedway opened to record crowds for the 2049 racing season. Due to the lack of arenas and racetracks in Iowa, it's expected that the Speedway will continue to have capacity crowds for the foreseeable future. The track design was determined by a contest, and the winning design came from Riverside, Iowa (just south of Iowa City). Shaped in the unique arrowhead form associated with the TV series Star Trek, the Speedway had found its niche in the L'Outrance racing circuit.

Special Events:
Warp Trials - This is an unlimited class event, with the only distinction between racers being those with temporary speed boosters and no boosters. The objective of the race is to clock the fastest lap while dealing with competitors who are trying to do the same thing.
Booster racers will start the race at zero, and combat isn't allowed until one lap is completed. Booster racers compete only with other booster racers. Non-boosted racers start at 100 mph and start combat after the first lap is completed.
During warp trials racers employ a variety of vehicle designs, ranging from Indy cars to pickup trucks. Warp trials are held at least once a month, or once a week if enough vehicles are available. The fastest drivers have their name posted on the Warp Factor Wall of Fame.

Team Events - Each team chooses a Star Trek race (Federation, Klingon, Cardassian, etc.) and places that race's symbol somewhere on their cars. Company sponsored teams typically have the same symbol for all of their vehicles. This is true if the race they use has multiple symbols, like classic Trek and Next Generation Klingons and the variations of the Federation arrowhead symbol.

Star Trek Events - These events usually occur on the birthdays of Star Trek actors' birthdays or other Trek-related items. One of these events is tribble racing. An equal number of tribbles and chasers begin the race half a track apart from each other. Every time the tribble(s) pass the start/finish line four more tribbles enter from the pits. The chasers must destroy or disable the tribbles before they're overwhelmed by them. The chaser who kills the most tribbles wins.
Tribbles are subcompact cars with a medium power plant, light armor, HD racing slicks, and no weapons. A coating of fur is applied to give the cars the appearance of a tribble. No animals were harmed to provide the fur for the cars. :-)
